RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattan women's lacrosse team was edged by Siena this evening, losing 9-8, at Gaelic Park.

The Jaspers fell behind early, with the Saints scoring the game's first two goals. However, the Jaspers' offense quickly responded and went goal for goal with the Saints for the majority of the first half.

However, in the second half, the Jaspers could not catch up to the Saints' lead they built in the third.

The first quarter of the game saw both teams fire off goals. The first quarter had seven goals, four for Siena and three for Manhattan. The second quarter saw nearly as much offense, with the Jaspers taking the lead off a goal from Jillian Reiner from a free position shot. The Saints quickly tied the game at five and retook the lead, all in under a minute. The Jaspers tied the game again at six but could not capitalize and entered the locker room down by one.

The second half saw the scoring slow down for both teams. The Saints controlled the third, shutting out the Jaspers and scoring two quick goals in the final two minutes of the quarter. The fourth played out the same, but the Jaspers shut out the Saints and scored two of their own this time. Despite the two goals in the fourth, it still left the Jaspers down by one when the final horn went off.

Reagan Mullins, Reiner, and Olivia Cruthers led the offense in goals, scoring two. Andrea Liotta and Ava Fernandes both picked up three ground balls.

Manhattan returns to action on Wednesday, April 19, to host Fairfield at Gaelic Park at 3 p.m.
