RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan softball returns to action on Thursday at Gaelic Park for a doubleheader before hitting the road this weekend for two more MAAC doubleheaders.
The Jaspers welcome Stony Brook to Gaelic Park on Thursday at 2 p.m. The Jaspers then face Mount St. Mary's on Saturday and Rider on Sunday.
Manhattan is coming off a sweep of Fairfield on Saturday and has won three in a row. Against the Stags, the Jaspers walked off with a 6-5 win in nine innings in game one and took game two 5-2. Lauren Rende provided the heroics in the first game. The shortstop connected on her third homer of the year with a three-run shot to right-center. In game two, Gabriella Mazzotta hit a three-run homer in the first, and Tajiana Pickett supplied a solo shot in the sixth.
Stony Brook (13-20) has lost four in a row, including a three-game series to Delaware. Alicia Orosco is hitting .300, which is the best on the Seawolves. Alyssa Costello has a team-best 21 RBI and is second on the team in average at .293. Ashton Melaas has made 23 appearances in the circle for Stony Brook and owns a 3.06 ERA.
Mount St. Mary's (19-14, 4-2 MAAC) is coming off a doubleheader split with Quinnipiac on Saturday. Mariah Godde leads the Mountaineers in average (.325). Abigayle Perry leads the team in runs scored (23), triples (2), home runs (3), stolen bases (14), and walks (27). Olivia Murphy has made the most appearances for the Mountaineers (16) and owns a 2.77 ERA over 53 innings.
Rider (8-22, 0-4 MAAC) will face Monmouth—single game—and Saint Peter's—doubleheader—before the Broncs welcome the Jaspers on Sunday. Jayden Merrill leads the Broncs in average (.333), slugging percentage (.556), RBI (17), and home runs (3). Kathryn Schmierer has logged 67 innings in the circle and possesses a 3.12 ERA.
Mazzotta currently owns a seven-game hitting streak and is hitting .421 during the streak. The center fielder leads the team with a .323 average.
Last week, Mazzotta hit .571 with seven RBI and six runs scored to pace the Jaspers in a 3-3 week.
Lindsey Hoag, Pickett, and Lauren Rende own streaks of at least five straight games of reaching base.
Pickett recorded a .364/.417/.636 slash line last week. The sophomore drove in three runs and scored twice.
