Manhattan Heads to the Lone Star State for Weekend Tournament

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan softball will travel to the Lone Star State for the Red Raider Classic for five games spanning Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
 
The Jaspers face New Mexico and Texas Tech on Friday. Manhattan will see Buffalo and Texas Tech on Saturday before closing with Buffalo on Sunday.
 
Manhattan is coming off a 2-2 weekend against Hartford and Central Connecticut. The Jaspers split each doubleheader against the Hawks and Blue Devils. Manhattan held on in the second game against Central Connecticut 7-6. Tajianna Pickett hit two homers in the game and drove in four runs for the Jaspers.
 
New Mexico sits at 9-13 on the year and is coming off a 2-3 weekend at the ASU/GCU Classic. The Lobos beat Charlotte 7-6 in the weekend's final game. Rachael Hathoot hits .367 to pace the Lobos and leads the team in OBP and slugging. Amber Linton has logged over 70 innings in the circle and is 5-6.
 
Buffalo is coming off a split doubleheader with Queens on Mar. 4 and is 5-12 on the season. Alexis Lucyshyn leads the offensive in average (.278), slugging (.463), hits (15), RBI (6), doubles (7), and total bases (25). The senior is also the top pitcher for Buffalo with a 4-4 record, 2.84 ERA, and six complete games.
 
Texas Tech, the hosts, are 15-7 in 2023. The Red Raiders hosted North Dakota, Seton Hall, and Rutgers last weekend and 3-2. Kailey Wyckoff, a freshman, leads the team with an .448 average and total bases (48) as a true freshman. Wyckoff also leads the team in slugging percentage. Makinzy Herzog leads the team in hits (27), runs scored (20), RBI (18), and doubles (8).
