HAMDEN, Conn. – Manhattan won its fourth straight game and moved to 4-0 in MAAC play with a 12-5 win over Quinnipiac on Wednesday afternoon.
In the win, Manhattan (7-2, 4-0 MAAC) got more balanced scoring against Quinnipiac (4-4, 2-2). Ten different Jaspers had a point, and the 12 goals came from nine different players on Wednesday.
Scott O'Connor, Kyle Gucwa, and Liam Peabody had three points for the Jaspers. Gucwa's three points extended his point streak to 39 games. O'Connor has now scored in each league game.
Defensively, the Jaspers were strong again. The five goals are a season-low for Quinnipiac, and Manhattan held Quinnipiac to one goal after halftime.
Quinnipiac led 3-2 after the first quarter before the Jaspers scored the first four goals of the second quarter to take a 6-3 lead. The goals were scored by four different Jaspers—Dan MacKinney, Matthew Scully, Gucwa, and O'Connor.
The Bobcats got one back at the end of the frame before the Jaspers scored the next five goals, spanning the third and fourth quarters. O'Connor completed his hat trick during the run. Kelly DuPree, the reigning MAAC Offensive Player of the Week, scored twice during the stretch.
Drew Hiner concluded the scoring for the Jaspers after Quinnipiac got one back through Jake Tellers. Tellers' goal snapped a goal drought of close to 20 minutes of clock time for the Bobcats.
The Jaspers' defense limited the Bobcats to a season-low in shots (30), shots on goal (13), shooting percentage (.167), and shots on goal percentage (.433).
Joseph Persico made eight stops and again lowered his MAAC-leading GAA to 7.89. The five goals allowed matched a season-low allowed by Persico.
Manhattan puts its perfect MAAC record on the line next against Marist on Saturday at noon at Gaelic Park.
