RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan softball is set to play three games this week, starting with a single game on Wednesday against Columbia. The Jaspers then visit Hartford for a doubleheader on Saturday.
Wednesday's game at Galeic Park against Columbia will start at 4 p.m. The doubleheader at Hartford starts at 12 p.m.
Manhattan was swept in both doubleheaders last week against Seton Hall and Bryant. The Jaspers did have chances to split both doubleheaders with closes losses in game two against the Pirates and Bulldogs. Manhattan had runners on base in the seventh in a 9-7 loss to Seton Hall and in the ninth in a 6-5 loss to Bryant.
Columbia enters Wednesday at 5-11 and is coming off a weekend series against Brown, which it took two of three. Bubba Gleaves leads the Lions in average (.372), slugging percentage (.512), RBI (11), and walks (4). Megan Ryono leads Columbia in runs scored (8) and hits (17). Jordan Hill has logged the most innings (54.2) in the circle and has a 3-6 record.
Saturday's doubleheader will be the season's third and fourth games between Hartford and Manhattan. The teams met on Mar. 3 in Riverdale and split the doubleheader. Manhattan won game one 3-1, and Hartford took game two 7-3. The Hawks are 5-10 on the year and will play Bryant on Wednesday. Mara Sczecienski is the best hitter for the Hawks, with a .380 average and a .720 slugging percentage. The senior also leads the team in runs scored (11), homers (4), and RBI (11).
Mazzotta, Marika Deemer, and Kaitlyn Flood share the team lead with 7 RBI. Deemer drove in runs in both games against Bryant on Sunday.
As a team, the Jaspers have four triples this season. That total shares the league lead with Rider.
Deemer is inside the top 10 in the MAAC in slugging percentage (.529) and OPS (.962).
