BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – After a loss on Wednesday, Manhattan bounced back with an 8-5 win over LIU on Saturday.

"We answered back today as a team. It was a fight for the full game, and we rose to the challenge together. Our defense made some great stops for our offense to capitalize on. We are looking forward and continuing to prepare for our next competitor", said head coach Jenna Dingler

Third-quarter goals by Olivia Cruthers and Julianna Iovine broke a 3-3 tie and gave the Jaspers the lead for good.

Manhattan (3-1) opened up the scoring for the game, halfway through the first quarter, with a goal from Julia Fernandes, assisted by Reagan Mullins. It was Fernandes' eighth of the season. Manhattan held the 1-0 lead through the first quarter.

The second and third quarters saw the score tied three times. LIU (2-3) took a 2-1 lead with goals from Julia Trainor and Luna Katz. Cruthers' and Iovine's tallies made it 5-3 Jaspers heading into the fourth.

In the fourth quarter, Manhattan's offense struck three more times, two of which came in a span of 63 seconds. The first was by Jillian Reiner, and the second was by Cruthers. Reiner's came when the Jaspers were a man up and Cruthers' tally made it 7-4 Manhattan with nine minutes to play.

Pacing the scoring for the Jaspers was Reiner, dropping a hat-trick and collecting two ground balls. Cruthers picked up a pair of goals, her first two of the season. Ava Fernandes had three points on a goal and two assists. Ashley Gambardella made 10 saves in the win. The Jaspers got 16 of their 23 shots on the net, in addition to winning three more draws than LIU, 10-7.

The Jaspers play again Wednesday, Mar. 1, where they will host Columbia in Gaelic Park at 3 p.m.
