RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Jaspers fell 3-2 to Iona today in New Rochelle. The final set scores were 25-22, 25-22, 17-25, 17-25, and 8-15.

The Jaspers won the first two sets by a small margin of victory over the Gales today, beating them 25-22 in both sets. However, they were unable to keep up with the Gales' advancing offense, losing the next three sets until the Bobcats eventually emerged victorious in the fifth set.

In the first set, the Jaspers and Gales were evenly matched, forcing seven lead changes and tying the game 15 times. The Jaspers finally broke away from the Gales towards the end of the set, going on a 5-1 run to put them up by four points. While the Gales would bring the set back within two points, the Jaspers held the lead to win 25-22.

While the second set ended with the same score as the first, it played out much differently. Using the momentum from winning the previous set, the Jaspers scored the first five points of the set. The Jaspers maintained this lead all the way to the middle of the set, where the Gales fired back with a six-point run of their own to put them up by two. However, the Jaspers were determined to win the second set, firing off a 4-1 run to retake the lead. With the set score at 22-21 in favor of the Gales, the Jaspers scored the final four points of the set to win 25-22.

The final three sets saw the Jaspers fall behind early, allowing the Gales to slowly amass a lead against them.

Leading the match in kills today was Maike Bertens, slamming down 25 against the Gales, nine more than the Gales' highest performer. Sarah Emmons led the team in assists today, dishing out 38 for her teammates. Bertens also led the team in digs, scooping up 13.

Manhattan will return to action on Wednesday, November 8th, at 7:00 p.m. to face Binghamton in Riverdale, N.Y.
