LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Manhattan men's basketball team went up against No. 1 Kansas tonight at Allen Fieldhouse. The Jaspers fell to the top-ranked team, 99-61.

"The biggest thing for us in a game like that is can you win a four-minute segment early. We got shots, and we didn't knock them down," said head coach John Gallagher. "The storyline in the second half is we scored 42 points in the second half because we ran our offense more crisp, more sharp. Our starters shot 40 percent in the game. Not a great number, but it's still not awful. Kansas is the number-one team in the nation for a reason. It's a learning bar for the players and coaches and shows what the highest level of playing college basketball is."

The Jaspers were led in scoring tonight by Seydou Traore. He had 16 points on 6-for-13 shooting, including a 4-for-4 performance from the charity stripe. He also added eight rebounds and three steals. Brett Rumpel added 11 points.

The Jayhawks jumped out to a 6-0 lead before Traore hit a jumper to give Manhattan its first basket of the game.

Manhattan trailed at the half, 44-19, to the Jayhawks. Rumpel made 3 of 6 shots from the field to post six points at the break, along with Rokas Jocys going 2-for-2 from the floor, including a made three-pointer. The Jaspers made nine buckets from the floor but struggled from three-point land making 1of 8.

Coming out of intermission, both teams traded baskets, leaving little to no movement in the scoring margin at first. Kansas then began to increase its lead Traore was the first player to hit the double-digit scoring mark.

Manhattan shot 33.8 percent from the floor and 0.8 percent from three-point range.

Kansas had five players finish in double digits, led by Hunt Dickinson's 18 points and eight rebounds. The Jayhawks shot 56.7 percent from the floor and 81.3 percent from the free throw line.

The Jaspers fall to 1-1 on the season, while the Jayhawks improve to 2-0.

The team will make their Draddy debut this season when they host Felician on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.
