BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Manhattan dropped a midweek contest at LIU in three sets on Wednesday night. The Sharks won the sets by scores of 25-14, 25-18, and 25-8.
Camila Gomez and Kelly Markowski shared the team lead with six kills for Manhattan (0-7). Julieanne McKee added eight digs and six assists. McKee made her season debut for the Jaspers on Wednesday.
Manhattan took a 6-4 lead in set one off a kill from Sarah Emmons. LIU (3-7) answered with a string of seven points in a row to take an 11-6 lead. The Jaspers would not get any closer over the remainder of the set.
The Sharks scored seven of the first nine points in the second set. Manhattan would battle back to within two, 11-9, with the help of kills from McKee, Markowski, and Julia Menocal. Later, Bella Nascimento and Gomez tallied back-to-back kills to get the Jaspers tied at 15. LIU answered with the next four points to take the lead for good.
In the final set, the hosts scored the first eight points and then extended their lead to 14-3 en route to the set win.
Manhattan returns to action on Saturday at Marist at noon. It is the MAAC opener for both teams.
