FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Manhattan continued its stretch of three straight on the road to close the regular season with a 14-6 loss at Fairfield on Wednesday.
The Jaspers got on the board after five minutes of play, thanks to a Grace Lipponer goal, assisted by Meghan Rodino. The Green and White trailed the Stags 3-1 after the first 15.
Fairfield (9-6,4-3 MAAC) built an 8-1 lead by the end of the second quarter, scoring two goals within the first four minutes of the second stanza.
The Stags held the Jaspers scoreless in the third quarter while adding two of their own. Fairfield would extend the lead to 10-2 with one quarter to play. Junior Maggie Fort scored four of the Stags' 14 goals.
Manhattan (9-7, 3-4) answered with four goals in the final 15. Lipponer scored within the first minute of the quarter. The senior finished with a pair of assists and three goals, giving her 53 goals of the season for the Jaspers. Meghan Rodino added two goals and Ashley Bonitch secured a goal to make it 14-6 with 3:31 to play. The Jaspers picked up 13 groundballs and caused 15 turnovers during the contest.
Junior goalkeeper Ashley Gambardella ended the day with 13 saves for the Green and White.
