RIVERDALE, N.Y.- The Manhattan Softball team dropped both games at home on Saturday in a doubleheader against Seton Hall. The Pirates defeated the Jaspers 1-0 in the first and then 5-2 in the second.

Game 1: Seton Hall 1, Manhattan 0

In the first inning, Gabriella Mazzotta singled to the shortstop. The junior would steal second but was stranded there. Then in the bottom of the third, Jessie Rising added a triple to deep center field to start the frame but was also left aboard.

After three innings scoreless the Pirates added the lone run of the game, from a sacrifice fly to right field to advance Miranda Aruffa home. In the bottom of the fourth, Kaitlyn Flood singled and stole second with two outs. Flood was cut down at third on a fielder's choice to end the frame.

In defeat, the Jaspers added four hits and left four runners on base. Rising pitched a complete seven innings and added three strikeouts for the Green and White.

Game 2: Seton Hall 5, Manhattan 2

The Pirates jumped to a 5-0 lead by the bottom of the third inning. Seton Hall added two in the second and Taylor Hill hit a two-run home run to gain the five-run lead.

The Jaspers fought back and cut the lead to three. In the bottom of the sixth, Rising stole second base and advanced to third on an error. Lauren Rende would use this opportunity to get Manhattan on the board as she broke for home on the throw down to second trying to get Rising stealing. Meghan Hedlund followed that with a single to right-center to bring Rising home.

Lindsey Hoag, who pinch ran for Megan Hedlund, stole second and then advanced to third on a groundout before getting stranded there when the sixth ended for Manhattan.

Ava Metzger got the start for the Green and White and struck out four Pirates. Marika Deemer pitched the final four innings with two strikeouts.

Rende tallied two of the Jaspers' four hits, going two-for-three, and scoring one run.

Manhattan returns to action on Monday at home, in a league doubleheader against Siena. The Jaspers and Saints will play at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m.
