NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Manhattan dropped both games of a doubleheader against Iona on Saturday. Iona won the first game 9-2 before edging out the Jaspers 3-2 in the second game.

Game 1: Iona 9, Manhattan 2
Manhattan jumped out to a quick start in game one, plating two runs on a single by Marika Deemer in the first inning. The Jaspers' opening rally started with Lauren Rende first reaching on an error before moving to second on a fielder's choice. Kaitlyn Flood then singled and stole second to set the Jaspers up with runners on the corners for Deemer.

Iona responded in the bottom of the first with one run on one hit, before adding two more in the second to take a 3-2 lead. A two-run home run by Kaitlyn Flukey was the highlight of second frame, which scored Morgan Ritchey.

After scoring another run in the third, Flukey and the Gaels struck again in the fourth inning with another two-run home run from the first baseman. This extended the lead to 6-2 and prompted a pitching change by the Jaspers.

Iona would add three more runs in the sixth—highlighted by a solo shot from Jamie Sheeran—to seal the final scoreline.

Iona outhit Manhattan 12-5, and Samantha Rieb was credited with the win for Iona in her complete-game performance in game one.

Game 2: Iona 3, Manhattan 2
Game two was a close contest that was decided by a two-run blast by Iona's Jessica Chilcott off Ava Metzger in the third inning.

Manhattan led 1-0 after one inning of play thanks to a sacrifice fly by Flood. However, a home run by Iona's Kayla Haywood in the second inning knotted the score at one apiece.

A solo homer by Deemer to lead off the seventh cut the Jaspers' deficit to one before Rieb came on in relief to retire the final three Manhattan batters.

Manhattan collected three hits in game two, and Metzger lasted six innings while giving up three runs. Kara Zazzaro was the winning pitcher for Iona.

Up next for the Jaspers is a trip to Stony Brook on Thursday, April 21 for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
