RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan had its three-game winning streak snapped by Iona in a 12-11 setback on Wednesday in the final regular-season home game for the Jaspers.
Senior Grace Lipponer broke Manhattan's single-season record for points after recording five points on Wednesday.
The teams were tied at two after the first, and four at the half before Iona (9-5, 2-4 MAAC) used a three-goal run in the third quarter to take a 7-5 lead. The Gaels would not surrender the lead for the remainder of the game.
Later in the third quarter, Manhattan (9-5, 3-2) got back even at seven, with goals from Lipponer and Julia Fernandes. Lipponer's goal was her 72nd point of the season, which established a new program record for points in a season. The senior's goal was his 48th of the season.
Five of the next six goals would be scored by the Gaels. Iona would build a 12-8 lead by the 3:21 mark of the fourth quarter. Amber Brewster scored three of her six goals to cap the run for Iona.
Lipponer scored with 10:18 to go to stop the run. Fernandes found the back of the net with 4:21 to play to make it a 12-10 affair. Reagan Mullins made it three goals in a row with her 19th of the season with 2:08 remaining in regulation.
Mullins shot would be the last one of the game for the Jaspers. After Mullins' goal, Iona won the ensuing draw and forced a turnover after Manhattan got a defensive stop inside the final minute.
Five different Jaspers scored. Lipponer had four goals and an assist to bring her season total to 75. Fernandes finished with three goals, and Ashley Gambardella made 10 saves in goal.
Up next for the Jaspers is the first of three games on the road to close the 2022 regular season at Siena at noon on Saturday.
