PHILADELPHIA – Manhattan held on for a 10-8 win at La Salle on Saturday.
Manhattan (4-1) withstood a five-goal fourth quarter from La Salle (2-4) to earn the two-goal win. The Jaspers led 9-3 when the fourth started.
The Explorers scored three goals in three minutes to make it a 9-6 game with 9:08 to play. An Olivia Cruthers goal for the Jaspers ended the run and provided needed insurance for Manhattan with 8:13 left in the game.
Manhattan held La Salle scoreless for close to five minutes before the Explorers got to within three, 10-7, with 4:29 to play. Another three minutes passed before La Salle got its final goal of the game.
The Jaspers built the six-goal lead with five straight goals over 15 minutes of clock time spanning the second and third stanzas. Grace Lipponer started the run with her second of the day with 5:26 to go in the second quarter. Reagan Mullins, Julianna Iovine, and Ashley Bonitch added goals in the stretch.
