Manhattan Falls to First-Place Fairfield

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan led first-place Fairfield at the half, but a pivotal third quarter went Fairfield's way in a 75-63 setback for Manhattan.
 
It was only the second loss this season at home for the Jaspers.
 
Manhattan (17-10, 12-6 MAAC) trailed by four after one, then held Fairfield (20-6, 17-1) to seven points in the second quarter to take a 34-32 lead after the opening 20 minutes. The Jaspers limited the Stags to 2-11 shooting in the second and went 6-12 themselves.
 
Dee Dee Davis had 12 points in the first half for the Jaspers, and Brazil Harvey-Carr added 11. The pair went 9-18 from the field.
 
Out of the half, however, the Stags scored 12 of the first 15 points of the quarter to build a 44-37 advantage. Lou Lopez-Senechal and Callie Cavanaugh combined for 15 of Fairfield's 27 in the quarter that pushed the lead to nine, 59-50.
 
Manhattan got to within four twice in the fourth. A Harvey-Carr triple with 7:46 left made it 61-57 Fairfield. Harvey-Carr put in her 20th point of the afternoon with a turnaround in the lane to make it a 63-59 game.
 
David finished with 25 points to lead the Jaspers. Harvey-Carr recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Courtney Warley was again in double figures with 10 points and added five rebounds and three thefts.
 
Lopez-Senechal had a game-high 30 for the Stags.
 
On Wednesday, Manhattan welcomes Quinnipiac to Draddy Gymnasium in the regular season's penultimate game. The Jaspers and Bobcats tip at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
