RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattan women's basketball team will look to bounce back after suffering an overtime loss at the hands of Wagner on Monday with a pair of games. On Thursday, the Jaspers travel to Stony Brook before heading to Pittsburgh for a game with Duquense on Sunday.
The first match-up with the Seawolves features two teams looking to get back into the win column following open-night losses. The Seawolves lost their season opener at Syracuse.
Despite the setback on Monday, there were many bright spots for the Green and White.
Emily LaPointe opened the season with an 18-point effort.
Leyla Ozturk impressed in her debut, posting nine points and five rejections. Preseason player of the year,
Dee Dee Davis, opened with 17 points and tied her career-high in rebounds, hauling in nine boards.
Stony Brook, who was selected to finish third in the CAA preseason poll, will be led by a pair of preseason All-CAA selections. Anastasia Warren earned a second-team nod while Gigi Gonzalez slotted in on the third team.
The second game of the weekend against Duquense will be both teams' third game. The Dukes opened their season on Monday, showing their offensive muscles with a 94-47 win over Park Point. The high-powered offense versus the defensive-oriented Jaspers will make for an exhilarating game. Before taking the court on Sunday, the Dukes will face off with Brown on Friday.
Duquense was selected to finish ninth in the A-10, while Tess Myers was chosen as a preseason third-team All-Atlantic 10 member.
