RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan fell to Quinnipiac in a three-set match at home on Saturday. The final scores of the sets were 25-13, 25-16, and 25-11.

For the first time since last season, Lizzi Brown started and played for the Jaspers after being cleared medically just in time for senior day. She finished with three total attacks, hitting 33.3-percent.

"She hasn't practiced since April, and I was scared in the first set when she got hit in the eye, but she played a good game, and I was happy for her…especially since it was senior night, it was good to see her play," said head coach Mauro Miletic on Brown's return.

After dropping set one, the Jaspers opened set two by taking the first point off a kill by Julia Menocal. They used the momentum of the first point to gain the lead over the Bobcats. Manhattan held the lead until the Bobcats scored a kill by Aryanah Diaz to put them ahead 6-5. The Jaspers tied the set again at 7-7 with kills from Menocal and Kelly Markowski. However, the Jaspers could not regain the lead for the remainder of the set. After Quinnipiac made an 8-2 run, Manhattan scored six quick points to bring the game within three points at 17-14. The Bobcats closed on another 8-2 run.

The third set started in the Bobcats' favor, scoring three aces in a row and taking a 5-1 lead. This changed when Markowski earned a kill to put the Jaspers on a 5-1 scoring run, bringing the set within one. The Jaspers tied the set at eight soon after and kept the set close until the Bobcats went on a 17-3 stretch, putting a major distance between them and the Jaspers.

The leaders of the game were Markowski with 11 kills and nine digs, followed by Menocal with 10 kills and seven digs. Julieanne McKee dished out 18 assists for the Jaspers. For the third match in a row, Sophia Lotto had a team-high for digs, 11.

"Tomorrow, we are going up against the best team in the MAAC for the last couple of years, so if today was hard, tomorrow will be much harder. But we look forward to tomorrow to play some good volleyball," said Miletic.

The Jaspers play again Sunday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m. against Fairfield inside Draddy Gymnasium.
