LONDON, England – Manhattan opens the 2022 London Basketball Classic on Thursday against Northeastern at 5 p.m. GMT / 12 p.m. ET inside Cooper Box Arena.
The two other teams in the London Basketball Classic are Army West Point and Princeton. The two winners on Thursday will play each other on Saturday at 5 p.m. The consolation game will be at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Manhattan (1-2) comes in off an 86-39 win over Mount St. Vincent. It was the first win under interim head coach RaShawn Stores.
Northeastern (0-4) makes the trip across the Atlantic after a 76-48 setback at Syracuse. Jahmyl Telfort is averaging 16.3 points per game to pace the Huskies so far in 2022-23. The junior is also Northeastern's leading rebounder at 4.5 per game. Northeastern opened the season with Boston University and then played at Providence and home against Harvard before visiting the 'Cuse on Saturday.
Army West Point (2-3) comes to London on a two-game losing streak. The Black Knights lost both games at the William & Mary MTE against Radford and William & Mary. Army West Point's two wins came against Siena and Division III Keystone College (Pa.). Four Knights average double figures, led by Chris Mann's 17.2 clip. Charlie Peterson and Jalen Rucker pull down more than five rebounds a night.
Princeton (2-2) has won back-to-back games as it arrives in London. The Tigers topped UMBC and Marist to even its record. Princeton's last win was a seven-point victory over Marist on Saturday. Four players average double figures for the Tigers, with Tosan Evbuomwan leading the way with 16.3 points per game. The senior from Newcastle, England, also leads the Tigers in rebounding (7.3).
All time, the Jaspers are 2-1 against Northeastern. The two teams haven't played since 2014-15. Army West Point has been a common opponent for the Jaspers. The Jaspers and Black Nights have met 72 times. Manhattan and Princeton have met 19 times.
Manhattan picked up its first win of the season, 86-39, against Mount St. Vincent on Friday night. The win was the first under interim head coach RaShawn Stores and the first of the season for the Jaspers.
The London Basketball Classic will be the second time in the last seven years that the Jaspers have played overseas. The Jaspers played in the Belfast Classic during the 2017-18 season. Manhattan beat Holy Cross before losing to Towson in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Manhattan hit 13 3-pointers against Mount St. Vincent. That is T3 in the MAAC this season. Canisius hit 20 against Fredonia, and Quinnipiac poured in 15 against Stonehill.
Manhattan finished second in the MAAC in field goal percentage last season at 44-percent from the field. Through three games, Manhattan is shooting 50-percent, which leads the MAAC. Josh Roberts leads the MAAC and is ninth in the country in shooting percentage so far this season (82.4).
