RIVERDALE, N.Y. – In the regular season finale, Manhattan led at the half, then fell behind before coming back to earn a 2-2 tie with Saint Peter's on Wednesday night at Gaelic Park.
"We loved the effort. It was about pride tonight and finishing the season strong. The team did that," said head coach
Brendan Lawler. "Unfortunately, we didn't get the win, but we asked them to leave everything on the field and start next season tonight, and they did that."
Manhattan (3-7-5, 1-5-4 MAAC) led 1-0 at the half before seeing Saint Peter's (4-13-1, 3-6-1) score twice inside 10 minutes to take a 2-1 lead just before the hour mark.
Caitlin Alcoba provided the Jaspers with the tying goal in the 82
nd minute.
Julia Nicholas opened the scoring for the Jaspers in the 42
nd minute.
Nicholas' goal was her second of the season.
Brooke Zimmer found Nicholas with a through ball past the Peacocks' defense. Nicholas controlled the ball inside the box and then slotted it home.
Saint Peter's tied the game when Mya Daniels headed home a corner in the 51
st minute. Seven minutes later, after Manhattan was called for a handball in the box, Lucia Mansilla Medina converted the penalty kick.
Then, in the 82
nd minute, Alcoba got the ball near midfield, weaved her way through the defense, and avoided the charging goalkeeper to tie the game. The goal was Alcoba's second of the season.
Saint Peter's held a 20-10 shot advantage but only an 8-7 advantage in shots on goal. Nicholas had three shots on goal for the Jaspers.
