RIVERDALE, NY - The Manhattan College Volleyball team fell to Canisius in three straight sets in this afternoon's match. The final scores for the sets were 25-13, 25-18, 25-18.
Manhattan (1-14) fought Canisius today for three sets in Draddy gymnasium, marking their last home game for the next two weeks.
While Manhattan had a tough first set, they rallied in the second and third sets, maintaining the lead for most of the second set. The second set started off in Canisius's favor with the Golden Griffins going on a 3-0 run to open the set. However, Julia Menocal was able to kick off a three point run for Jaspers thanks a kill. Later on in the set, after back and forth play, the Jaspers were able to score back to back points to take a 9-8 lead. Manhattan was able maintain this lead until Canisius went on a seven point run making the score 22-15.
The third set was also a very competitive affair, with the Jaspers taking the lead towards the middle of the set after rallying from a 10-6 deficit. The Jaspers went on to a four point run kicked off by a service error by the Golden Griffins. This four point run put them up two points over the golden griffons to make the score 16-14. Unfortunately, Canisius scored the next 10 out of 11 points and won the set and ultimately the game.
The leaders of Manhattan's offense were Menocal and Camila Gomez, both registering 8 kills. The defensive leader was Teresa Garza with 12 digs.
Manhattan plays again this Wednesday, October 5th at 7 p.m. against St. Francis Brooklyn.
