RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan volleyball team is ready for a trio of matches this week, opening with a rematch at Saint Peter's, then hosting Siena and Marist on Saturday and Sunday.
Manhattan (1-19) will go up against St. Peters (0-23) to open the week on Wednesday. The last time these two teams faced each other was on Sept. 24th, when the Jaspers received their first win of the season at home in Draddy Gymnasium beating the Peacocks 3-2. This matchup, however, will be on the road for the Jaspers this time around, facing off in Jersey City, N.J.
Manhattan will be coming into this game off a loss against Iona last week, which came at home. Despite the Jaspers losing the game 3-0, the match was extremely close, with the second set going past 25 points. Julieanne McKee had a season-high 25 assists.
Saint Peter's has lost all their recent games before coming in to face Manhattan. However, the Peacocks did win a set in their match against Quinnipiac, losing the match 3-1.
After Saint Peter's, the Jaspers will return home to Draddy to face Siena (9-11) on Saturday, Oct. 22nd at 3 p.m. and Marist (12-9) on Sunday, Oct. 23rd at 3 p.m. The last time the Jaspers played the Saints was on the road, where they lost in a 3-0 sweep. The same situation applies to the Red Foxes.
Recently Manhattan's offense has been led by Camila Gomez, who had 15 kills against Iona. Gomez also scored 14 kills in the game prior against Rider. Gomez has also led the team defensively in the past few games, with last week's game against Rider tallying 15 digs. Teresa Garza has also performed well on defense, collecting 11 digs against Iona.
