HAMDEN, Conn. – Manhattan held Quinnipiac seven points in the opening quarter before Quinnipiac scored 65 over the final 30 minutes to win 72-65 on Saturday afternoon.
Manhattan (9-8, 4-4 MAAC) led 18-7 after the first quarter before Quinnipiac (10-7, 5-3) scored 24 points in the second, 20 in the third, and 21 in the fourth.
In the second quarter, the Jaspers led 18-14 before embarking on a 9-0 run over two minutes to stretch the lead to 27-14—their largest of the game. The Bobcats countered with a 17-6 run over the final 4:55 of the quarter to make 33-31 Manhattan at the half.
Quinnipiac took its first lead on a Mikala Morris layup at 38-37 three minutes into the third. Courtney Warley tied the game at 44 with a jumper. Manhattan then retook the lead at 46-44 on a layup from Dee Dee Davis before Quinnipiac scored the final seven of the quarter over two minutes to take a 51-46 lead into the fourth.
An 11-4 Quinnipiac run to start the fourth quarter proved the difference. The Jaspers turned the ball over five times during the run that lasted 4:41.
Manhattan did cut the deficit to five with 1:58 to play, thanks to a 9-2 stretch, but that would be as close as the Jaspers would get. That came off a Davis 3-pointer.
Warley finished with 20 points and 15 rebounds for her second straight double-double to lead the Jaspers. Warley went 8-10 from the field and 4-5 from the free-throw line. Davis finished with 17 points, and Jenna Jordan was in double figures with 10 points.
Amani Free had a game-high 21 points to lead Quinnipiac.
Manhattan visits Saint Peter's on Tuesday night in a rescheduled game from Jan. 1. The Jaspers and Peacocks start at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
