RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan outscored Iona 18-9 over the final nine minutes to secure a 64-59 win on Thursday night. The win moves Manhattan's (9-5, 4-1 MAAC) winning streak to four and the Jaspers remain unbeaten at home (6-0).
A 12-3 run that spanned 5:22 over the middle stages of the final stanza gave the Jaspers the lead for good. Dee Dee Davis supplied two 3-pointers during the stretch. The second one came from the wing in front of the Manhattan bench to give the Jaspers a 56-53 lead with 4:20 to play. Brazil Harvey-Carr, who found Davis for the preceding triple, capped the run with a pull-up jumper off a screen to make it 58-53 Manhattan.
Iona (2-8, 0-5) got to within one, 58-57 and 60-59, but could not tie or take the lead over the final three-plus minutes. The Gaels started the fourth quarter scoring the first four points to break a 46-46 tie.
The Jaspers scored four of their final six points from the free-throw line to close the game on a 6-2 run over the final 1:44.
Three Jaspers were in double figures. Harvey-Carr had a team-high 17 points with four 3-pointers. The forward added six rebounds and three assists. Davis finished 11 points, five assists, five rebounds, and three steals. Freshman Petra Juric tallied 10 points—including the first four of the game for Manhattan—and grabbed five rebounds. Courtney Warley grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
Ketsia Athias had a game-high 18 points to pace the Gaels.
Iona outshot Manhattan, 42-percent to 36-percent, but the Jaspers outrebounded the Gaels by 13 and shot better from 3-point range, 30-percent to 16-percent.
