Riverdale, NY - Junior Annie Moore (Northridge, CA / El Camino Real) rapped out five hits on the day to lead Manhattan to a doubleheader sweep of Siena by scores of 6-2 and 3-2.
The Jaspers are now 15-9, while the Saints fall to 14-10.
Game One
* Manhattan exploded for six unanswered runs in posting a 6-2 win over Siena in the opener.
* Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Moore led off with a single before moving to third on senior Victoria Alonso's (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) ground-rule double. Senior Jessie Rising (Little Egg Harbor, NJ / Highlands) followed with a RBI single to tie it up at 1-1. Alonso would go on to swipe home, before Rising scored on senior Emma Kindblom's (Wilbraham, MA / Wilbraham & Monson Academy) RBI ground out.
* The Jaspers added to their advantage with three more runs in the fifth. Graduate student Christine Gebhardt (Middletown, NJ / Middletown North) led off with a single, before advancing to second on Moore's ground-rule double. Senior Daniela Chiorazzi (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) then walked to load up the bases with no outs.
* After a pair of force outs at the plate, Manhattan broke through with two runs on a Marika Deemer (Perrysburg, OH / Perrysburg) two-run single, before Kindblom plated another run by reaching on a catcher's interference call with the bases loaded.
* Moore finished up 3-for-4 with a double, while Rising was 2-for-3 with two runs and Lauren Rende (So., Ardsley, NY / Ardsley) 3-for-3 to pace the Jaspers at the plate.
* Rising improved to 5-3 with the win on the mound, striking out five while yielding two runs on six hits and a walk over 7.0 dominating innings.
Game Two
* Manhattan scored three runs early, before holding off a late Siena charge en route to sweeping the doubleheader with a 3-2 victory.
* In the bottom of the first, Gebhardt singled with one out, before Moore crushed a two-run homer.
* The Jaspers extended the lead out to 3-0 in the third with a two-out rally, despite not hitting the ball out of the infield.
* Gebhardt got things rolling with a single to short, before moving to third on Moore's single to second base. Chiorazzi then plated Gebhardt with an infield single to second.
* Siena got a pair of runs back in the sixth and had the tying run on second with one out in the seventh, only to be denied when Deemer induced back-to-back groundouts to third to end the game.
* Graduate student Nicole Williams (Ansonia, CT / St. Joseph's) earned the win, striking out three over 5.0 scoreless innings while scattering just two hits and five walks in moving to 6-1.
* Deemer earned her first first career save with 1.2 innings of one-hit relief.
* Moore and Gebhardt combined to go 4-for-6 with three runs and two RBI to lead a seven-hit Green & White attack.
* The teams conclude their series tomorrow with an 11:00 am doubleheader.
