Jaspers Split Doubleheader At VCP

Riverdale, NY –
 Senior Will Trochiano (Morganville, NJ / Marlboro) went 4-for-7 with a double and a home run to lead Manhattan to a doubleheader split with Rider in the first games at Van Cortlandt Park since 2014.

The Jaspers are now 1-5, while the Broncs are 7-3.

Game Two
All nine regulars reached base safely, with five registering multiple hits as Manhattan posted a decisive 8-1 victory over Rider in the nightcap.

Junior David Moffett (Oneida, NY / Vernon-Verona Sherrill Senior) opened the scoring with a bases loaded, two-run RBI single down the left-field line, before senior Richie Barrella (Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) scored on a Trevor Santos (Nutley, NJ / Nutley) sacrifice fly as the Jaspers scored three first-inning runs.

Junior Jonathan Barditch (Miami, FL / Belen Jesuit Prep) pushed the lead out to 4-1 one inning later with a two-out RBI double that pushed home Trochiano, who had singled with two outs. 

Sophomore Michael Campbell (Larchmont, NY / Mamaroneck) doubled before scoring on a wild pitch to score the fifth Green & White run in the sixth.

Manhattan added to its lead thanks to a Pete Durocher (So., Emerson, NJ / Emerson Junior-Senior) RBI single, and a Trochiano RBI double in the seventh, before freshman Frankie Marinelli (Florham Park, NJ / Hanover Park) capped the scoring with a RBI single.

The Jaspers rapped out 13 hits en route to reaching base safely 23 times.

On the mound, graduate student RHP Jacob Knight (Oakley, CA / Chabot CC) evened his record at 1-1 with 5.0 shutout innings of three-hit ball, while senior RHP Jose De La Cruz (New York, NY / West Chester CC) struck out two over 4.0 inning of one-run relief in collecting his first collegiate save.

Game One
LHP Pete Soporowski struck out five while yielding one earned run on three hits over 7.0 innings in leading Rider to a 10-2 victory.

Trochiano went 2-for-3 with a solo home run to pace Manhattan.

The teams will conclude their series tomorrow with a 12:00 pm doubleheader.
