New Rochelle, NY - Manhattan concluded the regular season with a pair of thrilling five-set victories over Iona at the Hynes Center.
The Jaspers improve to 4-6 while the Gaels fall to 3-6.
Manhattan finishes up the 2020-21 campaign tied with Niagara and Rider for third place with four wins apiece. Official seeds for the 2020-21 MAAC Championship have yet to be announced.
Match One
Led by senior Erin Hoener's (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) career-high 24 kills, on .595 hitting, the Jaspers won by scores of 25-22, 25-19, 22-25, 19-25 and 15-11.
In the decisive fifth set, the Green & White scored the first five points, before closing it out with five straight.
Junior Abby Wilde (Parkesberg, PA / Octorora) registered career-highs with 47 assists and 16 digs in notching her third double-double of the year and the eighth of her career. Wilde also had four aces, highlighted by the match-clinching strike.
Senior Kai Riner (Kennesaw, GA / Georgia Southern) paced the defense with a match-high 26 digs, while senior Reyn Hoffman (Ventura, CA / Ventura) had 13.
Fueled by Hoener's strong play, Manhattan hit at a .251 clip while registering an impressive 10 aces.
Match Two
Manhattan completed the sweep with a five-set comeback victory by scores of 25-23, 12-25, 16-25, 27-25 and 15-9.
For the second-straight match, the Jaspers came roaring out of the gates in the decisive fifth set in registering five of the first six points. After Iona cut it to 11-8, the Green & White closed out the victory with a 4-1 run.
Hoener again paced the squad with 11 kills with two aces, while freshman Bianca Vieira (Land O' Lakes, FL / Land O' Lakes) had nine kills and sophomore Lizzi Brown (Orlando, FL / Bishop Moore) eight, on .389 hitting.
Wilde had 24 assists, while sophomore Julieanne McKee (Poughkeepsie, NY / Spackenkill) added 15 to pace the setting unit.
Defensively, Riner had 23 digs, while freshman Ashley Chan (San Francisco, CA / Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory) had a career-high 19 digs and Hoffman 12 to round out the double-digit performers.
