Riverdale, NY – Siena scored six unanswered goals to break open a close game in outlasting Manhattan 12-5 in the Jaspers' home opener at Gaelic Park on Sunday.
Manhattan is now 0-2 and 0-2 in the MAAC, while the Saints improved to 3-0, and 3-0 in the league.
* Junior Grace Lipponer (Lake Grove, NY / Sachem North) opened the scoring for Manhattan, converting a free position goal five and half minutes into the first half, before again depositing a free-position goal five minutes later to tie the match at 2-2.
* Junior Meghan Rodino (Natick, MA / Natick) notched the first of her two goals with five minutes remaining in the half, as the Jaspers trailed 5-3 at the break.
* Graduate Student Deb Peifer (Collegeville, PA / Methacton) opened the second-half scoring for Manhattan, before Rodino scored her second goal just over a minute later to trim the Siena advantage to 6-5 with 26:29 to play.
* Unfortunately, the Saints responded with a game-closing 6-0 run.
* Senior Alaina Burgess (Holden, MA / The Governor's Academy) and sophomore Jillian Reiner (Fair Lawn, NJ / Fair Lawn) each had an assist for the Jaspers.
* Classmate Ashley Gambardella (Bethpage, NY / Plainedge) made eight saves in goal for the Green & White.
* Manhattan returns to action against MAAC foe Fairfield, on Friday March 19, at 7:00 pm at Gaelic Park.
