Jaspers Heartbreaker Loss in the Bronx

Bronx, NY – Manhattan College would be narrowly defeated in a tough road contest against cross-town rival Fordham University with a final score of 65-63. 
 
The Jaspers opened the game strong with a 7-0 run. By the end of the first quarter, Manhattan would lead Fordham 21-11 after going on a 8-0 run to close the 10 minute frame. In the first, the Jaspers held an impressive 60.0% field goal shooting percentage. In the second, Fordham would chip away at Manhattan's lead and tie the game off a free throw, with an ultimate score of 33-33 heading into halftime.
 
To start the third quarter, the Jaspers would strike first with a 3-point shot from junior forward Brazil Harvey Carr (Camden, NJ) and edge the Rams by as many as six. The Rams were able to claim a five point lead by the end of the third, at 44-49. 
 
A back and forth final quarter had the Jaspers trailing as many as eight, but back to back three point shots by junior guard Dee Dee Davis (Bronx, NY) would give Manhattan a one-point advantage with just over five minutes remaining in regulation. In the final minute of the game, the score was tied at 61 an Davis would continue her hot streak with a made jump shot from the top of the key to give Manhattan the two point edge with a mere 30.3 seconds remaining. Fordham would sink a pair of free throws to tie it up again and give the Jaspers a last shot. The Rams defense proved to be too much for the Jaspers as they stole the ball and made an easy layup at the other end to win the narrow contest 65-63.
 
The Bronx native, Davis would put on a show in front of her hometown scoring a season and career high 27 points. In addition, the junior captain would add eight rebounds, a pair of assists and a block.
 
Freshman forward Petra Juric (Zagreb, Croatia) would hit the boards strong for a season high and career high eight rebounds. She would finish the game with four points to her name.
 
Fordham was led by junior guard Anna DeWolfe (Cumberland, ME) who finished the game with a game high 27 points. The A-10 Co-Player of the Year would add two rebounds, a pair of steals, and three assists to her resume on the night.
 
The Jaspers will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 11 as Manhattan College travels to Hanover, NH to take on Dartmouth at 2:00 p.m.
