Riverdale, NY - Manhattan put together a complete performance on both sides of the court with a rousing 69-55 win over the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights in the first game back at Draddy Gymnasium after a three-game road stand.
The Jaspers maintained control of the score throughout the first half, topping the Knights for the entire half to go into the break with a 41-28 lead. Over the first 20 minutes, the Jaspers proved to be a dynamic threat on the court, tallying 20 rebounds, eleven of them on the defensive end. Manhattan would convert eight-second chance points off of their nine offensive rebounds in the same time frame. Thanks to their high-intensity defense, the Jaspers were able to create eleven forced turnovers. On the offensive end, the Jaspers dominated underneath scoring 16 points in the paint, helping them jump out to 13 point lead, 41-28.
The Jaspers were put to the test in the third quarter with the Knights firing a comeback to close the gap 53-46 at the end of the quarter. Manhattan was held to only twelve points but managed to secure ten rebounds.
The fourth proved to be just as tight, with only a four-point separation at 58-54 with four minutes left in the game. The Jaspers proved to be the dominant team pulling away by nine with a minute left. Manhattan maintained their lead for the entirety of the second half on the strength of their defense which finished the game with 10 steals, 38 rebounds, and converted a total of 26 points off turnovers. On the other side of the court, the Jaspers shot 42 percent on the day, with seven different players scoring including three in double-digits. After today's win, the Jaspers now have a 4-2 record against non-conference opponents.
Manhattan was led by senior captain Dee Dee Davis (Bronx, NY) who tallied a game-high 19 points, three steals, and seven rebounds. Graduate student and captain Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA) continued her stellar season performance and recorded her fourth double-double on the season, finishing with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and three assists. Junior forward Brazil Harvey-Carr (Camden, NJ) finished with ten points, four rebounds, one steal, and three assists. Today's contest was Harvey-Carr's fourth double-digit scoring effort of the season.
The Knights were led by Preseason All NEC team member senior forward Madison Stanley. Stanley, who was tabbed First Team All NEC for the 2020-2021 season, was held to just 13 points in the entire game. The Knights now have an overall record of 2-4.
The Jaspers will return to play on Dec. 1 at 7:00 p.m. taking on the Wagner University Seahawks (4-1) in Staten Island, NY.
