Brooklyn, NY – The Jaspers closed today's contest against LIU Brooklyn with a final score of 61-52. Manhattan's record improves to 3-2 on the season.
The Jaspers started the game strong, taking a 15-5 lead by the end of the first quarter. The lead margin was propelled by Sydney Watkins' perfect three-point shooting in the first, going two for two from long range. Watkins would finish the game with
Heading into halftime, the Jaspers led by six, but a third quarter rally by the Sharks would put them as close as tied with the Jaspers. Manhattan would answer the Sharks attack by closing the quarter with a 7-0 run to extend the gap against LIU. In the fourth, Manhattan would maintain their lead throughout for a decisive victory.
The Jaspers offense consisted of nine players on the roster scoring, with three in double-digit numbers. The Jaspers were led by Dee Dee Davis (Bronx, NY) with 14 points and three assists. Freshman Bella Nascimento (Grafton, MA) would continue to make her impact with the Jaspers program, scoring 11 points and adding three rebounds.
The Jaspers defense continues to be strong, with team totals of five steals, two blocks and an impressive 33 defensive rebounds. Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA) would add another double-double to her career with 14 rebounds and 10 points on the day. Ten of her rebounds were defensive.
LIU entered their home-opener game with 0-3 record. The Sharks were led by Brandy Thomas who finished with 13 points, six steals and five rebounds
