Manhattan Drops Season Finale to Monmouth

Riverdale, NY — Manhattan's season came to an end with a 3-1 loss to top-seeded Monmouth on Wednesday afternoon at Gaelic Park. The Hawks grew their lead to three midway through the second half which proved to be an insurmountable deficit for the Jaspers.

*Manhattan fell behind 1-0 in the 25th minute when Monmouth's Chloe Ferreira came up with the finishing touch amidst a sea of Manhattan defenders. Despite being outshot 8-3 in the first half, Manhattan had the best build-up of the half in the 31st minute when Eve Montgomery dribbled by a couple of defenders on the left side and connected with Sami Derrico in the box. Derrico's ensuing shot was blocked in the nick of time to keep the score at 0-0. Manhattan followed up that chance with another opportunity in the 40th minute when Ianah Davis freed herself up for a shot that trickled right of the goal.

*Kim Mains closed out her big season with 11 saves. Mains was kept busy throughout most of the game and had to be on her toes for a couple of loose balls that hovered around the net in the first half. With the help of the backline, Mains was able to help keep the deficit at one heading into halftime.

*Shortly after Mains pulled off a stellar diving save on a Monmouth free kick, the Hawks extended their lead to 2-0 in the 61st minute when A'liah Moore found the back of the net off another scramble in the box. Then, in the 66th minute, Jesi Rossman capped the scoring for Monmouth by depositing a ball in the upper right corner of the net.

*Manhattan refused to go down without a fight and was able to get on the board in the 70th minute when Montgomery unleashed a shot near the top of the box that took a deflection off a Monmouth defender and went in. The goal increased Montgomery's career total to six as she played her final game for the Jaspers.

*Manhattan had four corner kicks in the second half and applied heavy pressure in the final 15 minutes of play but weren't able to further cut into the Monmouth lead.

*Manhattan finishes the season in ninth place in the MAAC, just one spot shy of clinching a playoff berth. As a result of Rider losing to Iona 2-0, Manhattan ultimately needed a win or tie to secure the eight seed ahead of the Broncs.

*Sydney Harwood led the Jaspers in scoring this season with five while Julia Nicholas and Eve Montgomery tied for second with four apiece.

*In her first season in Riverdale, Nicholas paced the team with 27 shots with 11 directed on net.

*Harwood and Brooke Zimmer were the lone Jaspers to record two assists this season. Nine other players had one assist.

*Sydney Harwood, Eve Montgomery, Gemma Perez, Bri Floyd, Kaitlyn Hogan and Olivia Maldonado each played their last game for the Jaspers. Harwood and Perez were the only two fifth years on the team.

*Monmouth clinched the one seed in the MAAC Playoffs with 25 points.
