Riverdale, NY - With the cancellation of spring sports for the 2020 campaign, Manhattan Athletics has changed its ATAX Student-Athletes of the Week segment to an ATAX Senior Spotlight. Moving forward, seniors from all of Manhattan's spring sports will be featured three times a week.
Today, the spotlight shines on Jose De La Cruz (New York, NY / Westchester CC) from the baseball team and Susan Morad (Manassas, VA / Bishop Ireton) from women's lacrosse.
De La Cruz has made eight appearances on the mound since joining the Jaspers in 2019. This past year, he pitched in two games, firing an inning of relief at Wofford and against UAlbany.
"Jose has been one of the program's hardest workers over the last two years," said Head Coach Mike Cole. "He shows up to work every day, on and off of the field. We look forward to getting him back next year."
One of the top defenders in the MAAC, Morad ranked 11th in the MAAC and 106th nationally this past year with 2.29 ground balls per game. She collected three ground balls in win over Sacred Heart (3/11), and snared a pair of ground balls in the Jaspers' season-opening overtime victory over La Salle (2/8).
"Susan was a great captain for us this year," said Head Coach Jenna Dingler. "She was a strong, mentally-tough leader, who held herself and her teammates accountable. I will never forget our first meeting, when she told me that the team was going to be totally bought into myself and the program. Without a doubt in my mind, Susan will be successful in whichever path she takes next."
