WBB Opens Last Week Of Regular Season At Iona

New Rochelle, NY - Manhattan women's basketball (13-14, 10-8 MAAC) will look to secure a first-round bye in the upcoming MAAC tournament with a win at Iona Monday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm at the Hynes Center. 

GAME NOTES

Last Outing
Manhattan avenged its earlier 40-point loss to Fairfield, holding the Stags to their lowest point-total of the season on the way to a 51-38 win on February 29. Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) earned her third-straight 20-point game as she continues her tear through the final stretch of the MAAC regular season. She went 8-14 from the field and 4-5 from the free throw line. 

Emily LaPointe (Staten Island, NY / Staten Island Academy) contributed 18 points to Manhattan's offense, shooting 43 percent on the day and adding six rebounds and three assists. Julie Høier (Aabyhoej, Denmark / Marselisborg Gymnasium) led Manhattan on the glass, grabbing nine rebounds, eight on the defensive end. The Jaspers out-rebounded the Stags 39-30 in the game and 29-21 in defensive rebounds.

To The LaPointe
LaPointe earned her league-high seventh MAAC Rookie of the Week award on March 2. LaPointe leads the squad in scoring, averaging 12.3 points per game (12th in the MAAC), the most of any freshman player. Her 2.0 threes per game against MAAC teams also places her fifth in the conference.

Warley's World
Warley leads the MAAC with 2.8 steals per game against conference opponents, while ranking fourth with 9.5 rebounds per game against MAAC teams. She is averaging 12.8 points per game in conference play (13th in the MAAC), shooting 54.6  percent from the field (second in the league). With 2.44 steals per game overall this season, she is second in the league and ranks 46th in all of Division I.

700 Club
Warley and teammate Gabby Cajou (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) are inching into the 700-point mark. Cajou has 698 for her career, while Warley has 693.

About the Gaels
At 8-9 in MAAC play this season, Iona holds the 10th-best scoring offense in the league, earning 53.1 points per game. Juana Camillion leads the squad with 11.7 points per game (16th in the MAAC). She is also fourth in steals with 2.3 per game. Morgan Rachu, who did not play in the first meeting of the two teams in January, is also averaging 11.7 points per game. 

Previous Meeting
Manhattan held Iona to just two points in the third quarter on the way to a 54-32 victory in Draddy Gymnasium on January 25. Iona's 32 points was the lowest opponent point total for the Jaspers this season, with the Gaels hitting just 14 field goals, also an opponent low. Manhattan earned 14 steals in the game, while forcing 24 turnovers from the Gaels and scoring 22 points off TOs. LaPointe led the Jaspers with 12 points and added three steals. Warley earned a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards, in addition to a season-high (tied) five steals.

All-Time Series
Manhattan leads the all-time series 51-31, with Manhattan winning the last five match-ups.
