WBB Hosts Fairfield On Senior Day

Riverdale, NY - Manhattan women's basketball (12-14, 9-8 MAAC) will host Fairfield (13-13, 10-7 MAAC) on Saturday, February 29 at 2:00 pm. The game will be streamed live from Draddy Gymnasium on ESPN3. 

GAME NOTES

Senior Day
Saturday's game marks the celebration of Manhattan's graduating class: Emma Bedeker (Ottawa, IL / Ottawa Township), Julie Høier (Aabyhoej, Denmark / Marselisborg Gymnasium), Tuuli Menna (Helsinki, Finland / Richmond), Pamela Miceus (Haverstraw, NY / North Rockland) and manager Anna Rosario. The group will be recognized in a pre-game, on-court ceremony starting at 1:40 pm. 

Last Outing
Manhattan defeated Niagara 75-61 on February 22 to go 4-0 against the MAAC's Western New York teams for the first time under Head Coach Heather Vulin. The Jaspers also swept the annual trip upstate for the first time in Vulin's four seasons. Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) earned her second consecutive 20-point game, scoring 21 against Niagara after putting up a career-high 23 at Canisius. She added six rebounds on the day, all defensive, to move into eighth place on the program's single-season defensive rebounding list with 165 for the year. Gabby Cajou (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) added 16 points for Manhattan, while Høier nabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.  

Warley's Big Week
After averaging 22.0 points per game last week, Warley was named the MAAC Player of the Week, as well as the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Player of the Week, the first Manhattan women's basketball player to earn the Met nod. On February 26, she also earned a spot on the NCAA women's basketball "Starting Five" among players from the Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC.

About the Stags
After losing to MAAC #1 Rider on February 27, Fairfield is .500 on the year and 10-7 in MAAC playing, tying Quinnipiac for third place in the conference rankings. Allowing just over 59 points per game, the Stags hold the league's third-best scoring defense. As a team, Fairfield also committs just 13.6 turnovers per game, second-best in the MAAC. Lou Lopez-Senechal, the 2018-19 MAAC Rookie of the Year, leads Fairfield in scoring with 15.4 points per game (sixth in the league), followed closely behind by teammate Katie Armstrong with 13.8. Sam Kramer leads the MAAC with a 2.3 assist/turnover ratio.

Previous Meeting
Manhattan fell to Fairfield 87-47 on January 23 in Alumni Hall. Emily LaPointe (Staten Island, NY / Staten Island Academy) scored a team-high 17 points on 7-11 shooting in the game, while Warley contributed 10 points for the Manhattan offense.

Despite going 11-23 in the first half, the Jaspers battled an even higher shooting percentage from the Stags, who shot more than 63 percent on the other end for the first two quarters, including 6-8 from three. Fairfield's Katie Armstrong had a game-high 19 going into the locker room at halftime, going 8-10 from the floor and hitting half of the Stags' baskets from behind the arc. She would finish with a career-high 27 points, while Sam Kramer added 20 for Fairfield.

All-Time Series
Manhattan trails Fairfield 39-49 in the all-time series. In the Stags' last trip to Draddy, Manhattan earned a 47-41 victory.
