Manhattan improves to 12-14 overall and 9-8 in the MAAC, while the Purple Eagles move to 9-17 for the year and 7-10 in conference.
Highlights:
- Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) earned her second consecutive 20-point game, scoring 21 against Niagara after putting up a career-high 23 at Canisius on Thursday. She added six rebounds on the day, all defensive, to move into eighth place on the program's single-season defensive rebounding list with 165 for the year. With 654 total career rebounds, she is 10th place all-time.
- Another Jasper moving up in the Manhattan record books Saturday was Gabby Cajou (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland). With seven assists in the game, Cajou now has 286 for her career, good for 13th all-time. She added 16 points against the Purple Eagles, as well as three steals.
- Pamela Miceus (North Haverstraw, NY / North Rockland) tied her career-high of 10 points Saturday, while adding eight rebounds, two steals, a block, and a career-high four assists. Miceus' block in the game tied her for 12th all-time at 65, and she is six blocks away from jumping into the program's top 10.
- Julie Høier (Aabyhoej, Denmark / Marselisborg Gymnasium) nabbed a team-high 11 rebounds against Niagara, the ninth time this season she has led the Jaspers on the boards.
- Freshman Emily LaPointe (Staten Island, NY / Staten Island Academy) was the fourth Jasper to score in double-digits on the day, contributing 10 points and hitting 10 or more points for the 19th time this season.
- Down 13-10 midway through the first period, the Jaspers ended the quarter on a 11-3 run and never looked back. Manhattan outscored Niagara 18-10 in the second quarter and took a 13-point lead into the locker room at the half.
- The Jaspers shot 57.7 percent in the second half, including going 9-13 from the floor in the fourth quarter. Though Niagara would cut Manhattan's lead down to eight halfway through the third, the deficit was quickly back to double-digits when Tuuli Menna (Helsinki, Finland / Richmond) secured a defensive rebound and then set herself up for her first jumper of the game to bring the Manhattan lead back to 10.
- The Jaspers out-rebounded the Purples Eagles by 20 in the game, with Manhattan holding a 31-14 advantage on the defensive glass. The Jaspers' 48 total rebounds is the second best performance by the team this season.
- Taking just nine threes, the lowest number of trey attempts this year, Manhattan shot its best percentage from behind the arc, hitting five for .556 shooting. Cajou went three for four from downtown.
- Manhattan committed 21 turnovers, just one off the team's season-high, but the Jaspers were fortunate that the Purple Eagles only converted the TOs to nine points.
- The Jaspers secured 48 points in the paint, the second-straight game Manhattan has earned 40-plus points inside the key.
Manhattan returns home to face Fairfield on Saturday, February 29. The Jaspers will honor Høier, Menna, Miceus, Emma Bedeker and team manager Anna Rosario in the program's annual Senior Day ceremony prior to the 2:00 pm tip-off.
