Riverdale, NY -
Manhattan concluded 2020 with a rousing 65-59 victory over Delaware State in non-conference action at Memorial Hall.

Junior Elijah Buchanan (Bronx, NY / Woodstock Academy (CT)) scored 16 points with seven rebounds, two assists and two steals to lead the way for a Jasper outfit that improves to 2-3 on the year.

The win was the 142nd for Head Coach Steve Masiello in his 10 years at the college, which matches legendary Head Coach Jack Powers for third in the all-time program annals.

After trailing for much of the opening stanza, Manhattan grabbed control of the game with a first-half ending 14-2 run that turned a two-point deficit into a 10-point Jasper advantage at the break.

Junior Jason Douglas-Stanley (Mount Vernon, NY / George Mason) initiated the spurt with a pull-up jumper, before classmate Marquis Watson (Brooklyn, NY / Miami Dade College) split a pair from the line to give the Green & White a 22-21 advantage. Douglas-Stanley followed with a lay-up, Buchanan a three-point play and junior Ant Nelson (New York, NY / Seton Hall) a three pointer to cap an 11-0 spurt.

After Delaware State momentarily answered, senior Ethan Lasko (Hollywood, FL / Indiana) hit a triple from the corner with the shot clock expiring to conclude the first-half scoring while giving the visitors a 33-23 advantage at the break.

In the second half, the Manhattan lead ballooned to 13 on a pair of occasions, the last of which occurred at the 12:24 mark after a Nelson three-point play made it a 46-33 game.

The Hornets would get to within three on three occasions, but were unable to get any closer as the Jaspers made good on 6-of-8 from the line over the final five minutes to put the game on ice.
