Jaspers Travel To Fairfield

Fairfield, CT - The Jaspers will look to hand Fairfield (8-6, 5-0 MAAC) its first conference loss of the season as Manhattan (7-9, 4-3 MAAC) faces off against the Stags Thursday, January 23 at Alumni Hall. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm on ESPN+. 

GAME NOTES

Last Outing
Manhattan staged a second-half comeback against Marist on January 18, getting within three of the Red Foxes in the fourth quarter. But Marist was able to sustain the Manhattan defensive pressure, eeking out a 71-66 victory over the Jaspers in Draddy Gymnasium.

Emily LaPointe (Staten Island, NY / Staten Island Academy) finished with a team-high 18 points for her 11th double-figure scoring game of the season. She went 4-9 from three and added three assists for the Jaspers. Julie Høier (Aabyhoej, Denmark / Marselisborg Gymnasium) nabbed her second double-double of the season, with a season-high 14 points and a game-high (tied) 10 boards. Høier also contributed three assists. Sydney Watkins (Wanaque, NJ / Saddle River Day) put in 14 of her own, also hitting four threes. In total, the Jaspers sank nine threes in the game, just one off the team season-high of 10. 

D-Up!
Manhattan leads the MAAC in steals, averaging 9.5 per contest as a team. The Jaspers also rank third in scoring defense, allowing 60.9 points per contest. Across the NCAA, Manhattan ranks 84th in Division I for steals per game, and 98th in scoring defense.

Protect the Ball
Manhattan ranks 47th in Division I for fewest turnovers per game (13.8). The squad ranks among the nation's top 50 for best turnover margin, coming in at 49th (4.06), in addition to holding Division I's 57th-best assist/turnover ratio (1.06). 

Setting Records
Against Siena on January 16, Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) surpassed Linda Bores (1980-84) for 16th on the program's all-time rebounding list. Now with 552 career-rebounds, she is 33 away from the program's top 15. Warley is also 40 steals away from 15th on that all-time list. Currently fifth on the program's all-time blocks list, she is six away from 100 for her career.

Also at Siena, Pamela Miceus (Haverstraw, NY / North Rockland) jumped both Barbara Kelly (1980-81) and Lindsey Loutsenhizer (2008-12) to take 16th on the program's all-time blocks list. Now with 50 for her career, Miceus is three blocks away from tying current Athletic Director Marianne Reilly (1978-82) and Bores for 13th all-time, as well as 21 blocks from the program's top 10.

Now at 260 career assists, Gabby Cajou (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) is 17 away from tying Joann Nwafili (2004-08) for 15th all-time and 39 away from the program's top 10. She is 24 steals away from tying Michelle Pacheco (2006-10) at 15th on that all-time list. 

About the Stags
Just one of two undefeated teams in the MAAC, Fairfield holds the league's best scoring defense, holding opponents to 57.4 points per game. The Stags block 3.3 shots per game, with 6.3 steals per contest, in addition to forcing 15.4 turnovers per game. 

Lou Lopez-Senechal, the MAAC's 2018-19 Rookie of the Year, leads the Stags on offense with 14.1 points per game. On the glass, Katie Armstrong tops Fairfield with 7.6 rebounds per game.

Previous Meeting
Manhattan defeated Fairfield 47-41 at home on February 1, 2019, the lone meeting of the two schools last season. Warley recorded a game-high 13 boards, and added two blocks and nine points. Høier pulled down eight rebounds for Manhattan, the second-best rebound total of the night. Manhattan out-rebounded Fairfield 27-22 on the defensive glass, limiting the Stags' second-chance points.

All-Time Series
Manhattan trails Fairfield 39-48 in the all-time series, but the Jaspers are on a two-game win streak against the Stags, last losing to Fairfield on February 4, 2018 in a tight 55-52 game at Alumni Hall.
