Marist moves to 12-3 on the year and 5-1 in conference, while Manhattan moves to 7-9 overall and 4-3 in the MAAC.
Highlights:
- Emily LaPointe (Staten Island, NY / Staten Island Academy) finished with a team-high 18 points for her 11th double-figure scoring game of the season. She went 4-9 from three and added three assists for the Jaspers.
- Julie Høier (Aabyhoej, Denmark / Marselisborg Gymnasium) nabbed her second double-double of the season, with a season-high 14 points and a game-high (tied) 10 boards. Høier also contributed three assists.
- Sydney Watkins (Wanaque, NJ / Saddle River Day) put in 14 of her own, also hitting four threes. In total, the Jaspers sank nine threes in the game, just one off the team season-high of 10.
- Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan), the 2018-19 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, tied her season-high of five steals against the Red Foxes, while also pulling down 10 rebounds. The Jaspers earned eight steals on the day, while forcing 14 turnovers from Marist.
- With six assists in the game, Gabby Cajou (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) leapfrogged Donna Seybold (1986-1990) for 16th place on the program's all-time list. Now with 260 for her career, Cajou is 17 assists away from 15th place all-time. She added 10 points against Marist.
- With a game-high two blocks, Pamela Miceus (Haverstraw, NY / North Rockland) now has 50 for her career, moving into 15th place on that all-time list.
- Manhattan held a one-point advantage after a tight first quarter battle where the Jaspers shot just 35.3 percent from the floor but hit three threes and pulled down nine defensive rebounds.
- Marist then took advantage of poor Jasper shooting in the second quarter to not only take over the lead, but extend it to 10 at the half. The Red Foxes went 9-13 from the floor in the second stanza, while Manhattan hit just three field goals and turned the ball over five times, resulting in nine Marist points off TOs.
- Manhattan upped the defensive pressure in the third quarter, nabbing four steals with their press and earning 10 points off TOs in the period to cut the Marist lead to four going into the final 10 minutes.
- Back down by 10 with 5:22 to play, Watkins nailed a three, followed by a Warley steal and layup that cut the Marist lead in half. Høier then sank a lay-up in the paint to get the Jaspers within three.
- But it would be the closest the Jaspers would get to Marist, as Rebekah Hand scored five over the final three minutes to keep Manhattan at bay.
- Hand finished with a game-high 24 points, while Grace Vander Weide contributed 12 points and nine assists.
Manhattan will hit the road again to play Fairfield on Thursday, January 23 at 7:00 p.m.
