Manhattan To Open 2019 Season At Hartford

 The Manhattan Women's Soccer team will begin the 2019 season at defending America East co-regular season champion Hartford on Thursday, August 22 at 6:00 pm.
 
About The 2019 Jaspers
* The Jaspers return 22 letterwinners, including seven starters, from last year's team.

Welcome Back
* Junior Arianna Montefusco missed last year due to injury, after earning All-MAAC Second Team honors in 2017 thanks to ranking third in the MAAC with nine goals and fifth with 21 points.
* She also garnered MAAC All-Tournament accolades with two goals in Manhattan's semifinal victory over Quinnipiac, including the game-winning score, to help lead the Jaspers to finals. 

Head Coach Brendan Lawler
* The program's all-time winningest coach and 2015 MAAC Coach of the Year returns for his 10th season in 2019. 

Captains Named
* Senior Camryn Nici, junior Bri DeLeo and classmate Sydney Harwood will serve as captains for the 2019 season. Click HERE for the entire release.
* Nici turned in an impressive 2018 season, registering a 0.45 GAA with a .909 save percentage and two shutouts in the first extended action of her career. 
* DeLeo started all 12 game she played in and delivered the game-winning goal in the Jaspers' thrilling double-overtime triumph over Niagara, after finding the back of the net in a hard-fought draw with Binghamton.
* Harwood started all 10 games she played in and was a vital member of defense that yielded just 16 goals.

Roadtripping
* Manhattan will be opening the season on the road for the second-straight season.

For Starters
* The Jaspers are 14-13-1, all-time, in season openers and has won five of its last seven lidlifters.

Hello Old Friend
* Manhattan and Hartford will be squaring off for the fifth-straight season, with three of the four meetings having been decided by one goal or less.

Last Time Against The Hartford
* The Hawks posted a 3-1 victory over the Jaspers despite sophomore Kaitlyn Hogan's first collegiate goal, off a pass from junior Shelby Jones.

All-Time Against The Hawks
* Manhattan is 1-3-1, all-time, against Hartford, with the Jaspers playing to a 1-1 draw in 2017 thanks to a Montefusco goal. The Green & White defeated the Hawks by a 1-0 count in 2015 for its lone victory in the series.

Scouting Hartford
* The Hawks are led on offense by 2018 America East First Team selection Kaila Lozada, who had eight goals and eight assists a year ago, and Gabriela Gamory, who checked in with seven goals and two assists. Maia Perez won 13 games between the pipes with six shutouts.

Twice Is Nice
* On Sunday, Manhattan will travel to Stony Brook, which shared the 2018 America East Regular Season Championship with Hartford, with opening kicked tabbed for 1:00 pm.

* The teams last met in 2012 as the Seawolves hold a 1-4-1 advantage in the all-time series.

Scouting SBU
* Stony Brook Alyssa Francese (9 goals, 1 assist) and Chelsie DePonte (4 goals, 3 assists) led the offense in 2018 while Sofia Manner had 11 wins and seven shutouts to pace the defense.

Strike First, Strike Fast, Strike Hard
* The Jaspers are 29-0-4 over its last 33 matches when scoring first, dating back to the 2014 season.

Non-Conference Noise
* Manhattan's seven-game non-conference schedule will pit the squad against teams from three leagues, including the America East, Atlantic 10 (A-10), the Northeast Conference (NEC) and the West Coast Conference (WCC). Click HERE for the entire release.
* The Jaspers home opener will be against Fordham on Thursday, August 29 at 7:00 pm at Gaelic Park in the annual 'Battle of the Bronx.'
* Manhattan will play games at three America East opponents (Hartford, Stony Brook, Binghamton).
* The Jaspers will have two games against Division I newcomers in St. Francis Brooklyn (Friday, September 6 - 7:00 pm), which will be fielding soccer for the first time in 2019, and Merrimack (Sunday, September 22 - 12:00 pm), which is joining the Division I ranks this year, with both teams competing in the NEC.
* Manhattan will welcome Pacific, which is located in Stockton, CA, and plays in the ultra-competitive WCC to Gaelic Park on Friday, September 13 at 7:00 pm.

* The Jaspers were selected to finish eighth in the annual MAAC preseason poll.

Home Is Where The Heart Is
* Since the start of the 2012 season, Manhattan is 28-22-7, including 17-12-6 during league play, at Gaelic Park.

* The program's alumni game will be held at Gaelic Park on Sunday, September 8 with opening kick tabbed for 10:30 am.

2018 Recap
* Nine of the Jaspers' 10 MAAC matches were decided by one goal or less.
* Manhattan played in overtime seven times, including six occasions during MAAC play.
* 12 of the Jaspers' 15 match-ups were decided by one goal or less.
* Manhattan yielded just 16 goals in 15 matches and one or less 13 times.
