In game two, the Jaspers broke out to a 7-0 lead by the top of the second, benefiting from four RBI from Daniela Chiorazzi (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland). Manhattan won 7-1 in five innings (darkness) and improved to 19-23 on the season. Sacred Heart drops to 23-25.
Game 1: Manhattan 3, Sacred Heart 2
- Nicole Williams (Ansonia, CT / St. Joseph's) made her first start of the season Tuesday, going 3.0 innings for the Jaspers. In just her second appearance of the year, she gave up two runs on four hits, striking out three and walking just one.
- Hailey Desrosiers singled in the bottom of the first to open the game for the Pioneers, and later came home on a single by teammate Fallon Bevino to make it 1-0 Sacred Heart.
- The Pioneers struck again in the second, when Desrosiers tripled to left field, driving in another run.
- In the top of the third inning, Megan Gillooley (Clifton Park, NY / Shenendehowa) singled to the pitcher for a base hit, followed by a single from Kat Prevo (San Diego, CA / Our Lady of Peace) that put two runners on for Pitney.
- Pitney then sent what would be the game-winning home run over the right-center wall for three RBI and a 3-2 lead for the Jaspers.
- Williams faced three batters in the third, allowing no hits and no baserunners as the Jaspers maintained their lead.
- After Williams' solid third-inning performance, relief pitcher Jessie Rising (Little Egg Harbor, NJ / Pinelands) entered the game in the bottom of the fourth for Manhattan. She forced three outs from the first three batters she faced.
- Rising would finish the game for the Jaspers, giving up no hits over 4.0 innings and striking out three batters for the win. She is now 7-9 on the year.
- The Jasper bats were on fire to start game two, as Manhattan took a 3-0 lead on five hits in the top of the first.
- Pitney walked to start the rally, followed by a single by Christine Gebhardt (Middltown, NJ / Middletown North). After Sacred Heart starting pitcher Shyanne Fennell left the game with an injury, Annie Moore (Northridge, CA / El Camino Real) singled to right field for an RBI. Daniela Chiorazzi (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) and Rising would both pick up RBI before the inning was out.
- The rally continued in the second, when Moore added to her RBI count by driving in Prevo to make it 4-0. Chiorazzi then doubled to right-center to clear the bases and add three more runs to the board, giving the Jaspers a 7-0 lead.
- Brianna Santos put a run on the board for the Pioneers in the bottom of the second, singling to short to send Bevino in from third. But Manhattan starting pitcher Kayla McDermott (Garnerville, NY / North Rockland) allowed just two hits in the outing, stifling Sacred Heart's offense. She went 5.0 innings before the game was called due to darkness, walking one and striking out four of 16 batters faced for her eighth win of the season (8-10).
Manhattan travels to Western New York for the team's annual Canisius/Buffalo trip. The Jaspers will take on the Golden Griffs in a MAAC doubleheader in Buffalo on Saturday, April 27, starting at noon, then face the Purple Eagles in a DH on their home field the next day, starting at 11:00 am.
