Jaspers Open MAAC Play At Quinnipiac

Hamden, CT - Manhattan softball will take on the Quinnipiac Bobcats in a MAAC doubleheader Saturday, March 30 on the Bobcats' home field. The match-up, starting at 12:00 pm, will be the Jaspers' first league games of the 2019 season. Manhattan will follow up the two-game slate with a doubleheader against Morgan State on Sunday, March 31 starting at 2:00 pm at Gaelic Park.

Last Outing
Manhattan fell to Wagner in both games of a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 27. Both match-ups were tight, with the Jaspers losing 5-4 in the first game and 4-3 in the second. Christine Gebhardt (Middletown, NJ / Middletown North) and Daniela Chiorazzi (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) combined for four RBI on the day, while infielder Victoria Alonso (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) batted a team-best .833, going 5-6 and hitting one double.

Player(s) of the Week
On March 26, Manhattan's Lauren Pitney (Ansonia, CT / St. Joseph's) was named MAAC Player of the Week after compiling a team-high batting average of .636, scoring five runs on seven hits. She nabbed a double and a triple on the week, totaling 10 bases, a slugging percentage of .909 and an on-base percentage of .750. At second base in four starts, she earned 12 put outs and 10 assists. 

Pitney was the second-straight Jasper to win Player of the Week honors from the league: Freshman Annie Moore (Northridge, CA / El Camino Real) took the crown on March 19 after earning a team-high six RBI in 10 hits, including three doubles and one home run. She compiled a team-best slugging percentage of .667, as well as a .500 on-base percentage.

Team Leaders
Pitney leads Manhattan with a .414 batting average, .724 slugging percentage and .602 on-base percentage. Moore is the team's top RBI-getter at 22 so far this season. She has 28 hits on the year, including nine doubles. 

Pitcher Stephanie Kristo (San Jose, CA / Archbishop Mitty) has four wins on the year, holding opponents to a team-best .277 batting average. 

Last MAAC Season
Manhattan finished the 2018 MAAC season at 10-10, defeating Quinnipiac twice on senior day to earn a fifth-place seed in the league championship. The Jaspers made it to the third day of the double-elimination tournament, losing to Marist 2-1 to finish the season.

About the Bobcats
Sophomore Kayla Jensen leads Quinnipiac (5-18) with a .392 average with 31 hits, 12 runs, four doubles and one home run. Her batting average ranks fifth in the MAAC. The Bobcats rank second in the MAAC for team fielding percentage at .962, but are seventh in team batting average at .227.

About the Bears
Morgan State is 8-18 on the year and 1-2 in the MEAC. The Bears bat a team average of .237, while holding a team ERA of 6.08.
