In game two against host George Washington, the Jaspers fell 5-4 after a late rally fell short for Manhattan. The Jaspers move to 4-5 on the year.
Game 1 vs. Cornell
- After beating the Big Red 6-2 on Saturday, Manhattan continued its streak Sunday afternoon, winning 8-1.
- The Jaspers earned 10 hits including two doubles from freshman Annie Moore (Northridge, CA / El Camino Real).
- Christine Gebhardt (Middletown, NJ / Middletown North) earned a team-high four RBI in the game, including three on a triple in the second inning. She and Moore each hold a team-high 10 RBI on the season.
- Daniela Chiorazzi (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) and Adriana Gambino (Stamford, CT / Westhill) each added a double for the Jaspers in the game.
- Stephanie Kristo (San Jose, CA / Archbishop MItty) picked up her third win of the season from the pitcher's circle. She pitched 6.0 innings, striking out four. Relief pitcher Kayla McDermott (Garnerville, NY / North Rockland) came in to close the game, facing three batters and striking out one.
- The Jaspers first defeated Cornell 11-9 on February 24 at the Madeira Beach Invitational.
- The Jaspers' second game of the day was a tighter battle, with Manhattan holding a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the sixth.
- The Colonials struck first in the bottom of the first, scoring one on a double from Priscilla Martinez.
- Manhattan struck back with a RBI double from Moore in the third.
- The Jaspers went ahead 2-1 on another double, this time from Lauren Pitney (Ansonia, CT / St. Joseph's) in the fifth.
- Starting pitcher Jessie Rising (Little Egg Harbor, NJ / Pinelands) held the Colonials to one hit in the bottom of the inning, striking out one and getting two batters to line out to the outfield. But Manhattan was unable to extend its lead in the sixth, going three up, three down.
- George Washington then tipped the scales with a two-out grand slam home run by Jayme Cone in the bottom of the inning to make it 5-2.
- At bat in the top of the seventh, the Jaspers loaded the bases with one out for Moore, who belted a single to center field to score two, cutting George Washington's lead to 5-4.
- Gebhardt grounded out to the pitcher on the next at bat, advancing Jasper runners to second and third. But the rally came to an end when Gambino popped up to third base.
- Rising went the whole game, striking out six in 27 at bats. She is now 1-2 on the year.
The Jaspers will play their first home doubleheader of the year on March 13, hosting Central Connecticut State at 1:00 p.m. in Gaelic Park.
