Jaspers Take On Quinnipiac Thursday

Hamden, CT - Manhattan will travel to Connecticut Thursday, February 28 to face MAAC regular season champion Quinnipiac in the Jaspers' final road game.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+.

MAAC Standings
Five MAAC teams are currently vying for seeds 4-8 in the 2019 MAAC Championship. Manhattan, Monmouth, Siena, Niagara, and Canisius all have 8-8 records going into the final week of MAAC play. At 16-0, Quinnipiac has clinched the league's regular season title, while Rider and Marist will vie for the second and third seeds. 

Last Outing
Manhattan (10-17, 8-8) secured a 62-46 win over Saint Peter's on February 24 to land at an even .500 in league play. Junior Julie Høier (Aabyhoej, Denmark / Marselisborg Gymnasium) earned her first double-double of the season, scoring 15 points and pulling down a career-high 12 rebounds. Høier went 6-13 from the floor and 3-4 from the foul line. She earned eight defensive boards, while adding three assists, two blocks and a steal. 

Lynette Taitt (Irvington, NJ / Bishop Loughlin) added 13 for Manhattan, her ninth double-figure scoring game in the past 10 games. She added a career-high six steals in the game, as well as five assists. Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) grabbed 11 boards for the Jaspers, adding eight points. Though the Peacocks managed to get within four of the Jaspers in the second half, Manhattan led the whole way, with 16 as the largest Saint Peter's deficit.

Jaspers in the MAAC
Currently with a three-game win streak, Manhattan has held MAAC opponents to less than 55 points per game this season, the second-best scoring defense in the league. The team also leads the league in blocked shots per MAAC game (4.6). The Jaspers pull down nearly 39 boards per game against MAAC opponents, earning third-place in the league, and rank second in steals per league game at 9.3.

Warley's Climb
With 9.7 rebounds per MAAC game, Warley leads the MAAC. She is also the MAAC-leader in steals (2.8) and blocks (2.2) per conference game. 

This season, Warley has jumped into fifth place in the program's single-season list for offensive rebounds (105). She's also tied for 10th on the program's single-season blocks list (46). Warlrey is 22 defensive rebounds away from 10th on that single-season list, and 24 total rebounds away from 10th on the single-season rebounding list. Just a sophomore, Warley ranks eighth in all-time blocks with 75 for her career.

Unsung Hero
Taitt has scored in double-figures for Manhattan in nine of the team's last 10 games, averaging 9.6 points per game, a team-high among active players. She averages 2.3 steals per game against MAAC opponents, good for sixth in the league, as well as 2.8 assists, which ranks her 12th in the MAAC.

Høier Comes Up Huge
Høier has emerged as the Jaspers' secret weapon under the boards. She ranks 10th in the conference with 6.6 rebounds per MAAC game, as well as 10th in defensive boards (4.5 per game). She has pulled down double-digit rebounds in three games this season, all against MAAC opponents.

About the Bobcats
Quinnipiac (21-6, 16-0) claimed the MAAC regular season title with a win over Rider on February 21. This marks the fifth-straight regular season title for the Bobcats.

With 70.3 points per MAAC game, Quinnipiac leads the league, while also holding conference opponents to 47.2 points per game, a MAAC-best. Senior Aryn McClure leads the Bobcats with 11.4 points per conference game, with three other Quinnipiac players falling in the MAAC's top 30. Paige Warfel lands at eighth on the MAAC's rebounding list with 7.1 boards per game against MAAC foes.

Previous Meeting
Manhattan lost to Quinnipiac 64-39 on February 15 at Draddy Gymnasium. With three treys in the third quarter, Lizahya Morgan (East Hartford, CT / Capital Preparatory Magnet) scored a game-high 13 points for the Jaspers, going 4-7 from three-point range. Manhattan pulled down 44 rebounds as a team, out-rebounding the Bobcats by 10, including 17-11 on the offensive boards. 

All-Time Series
Quinnipiac holds an 11-1 advantage in the all-time series between the two teams. The Jaspers' one victory against the Bobcats came on December 6, 2015, when Manhattan beat Quinnipiac 52-42 on the road to open the 2015-16 MAAC season 2-0. Former Manhattan guard Amani Tatum paced the Jaspers with 18 points, eight of which came in the fourth quarter. She added then career-highs of seven rebounds and five steals.
