The Jaspers move to 1-3 on the young season.
Game 1: vs. North Florida
- Manhattan opened scoring in the fourth inning when Christine Gebhardt (Middletown, NJ / Middletown North) reached on a fielder's choice to score Moore from third.
- Starting pitcher Stephanie Kristo (San Jose, CA / Archbishop Mitty) then held the Ospreys scoreless into the fifth, allowing North Florida just one hit in the first four innings.
- Three Jasper errors in the bottom of the fifth contributed to five UNF runs in the inning, including three unearned. Pitcher Jessie Rising (Little Egg Harbor, NJ / Pinelands), who earned her first collegiate win against Detroit Mercy on Friday, came into pitch for Kristo down 3-1, but three more runs were scored before Manhattan was able to nab a UNF runner at home plate for the third out of the inning.
- Gebhardt walked to start the sixth, but Manhattan's bats were unable to produce in the inning, leaving Gebhardt on first.
- With the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, UNF's Dominica Cocuzza singled to left field, scoring two. On the next play, Cocuzza advanced to third on a throwing error, allowing another Osprey to score and expanding the lead enough for the game to be called under the run-ahead rule.
- Kristo earned the loss, her first of the year. She faced 19 batters, striking out two. Rising faced 12 batters in 0.2 IP, also striking out two.
- Moore went 2-3 in the game with a double. Gebhardt earned the Jaspers' lone RBI.
- Manhattan again opened scoring in the team's second game of the day, when Moore singled to left field in the bottom of the first to score Kat Prevo (San Diego, CA / Our Lady of Peace).
- Starting pitcher Kayla McDermott (Garnerville, NY / North Rockland) held the Big Red scoreless into the third, allowing one hit over two innings. But Colgate came roaring back in the third, scoring six runs in four-straight batters.
- Kristo relieved McDermott with one out in the inning, allowing one more run before forcing the Colgate batter to ground out to short, ending the Big Red run at 7-1. Colgate would score one more in the top of the fourth on a fielding error.
- Prevo got a run on the board for the Jaspers in the fourth, hitting a SAC fly to center field to score Victoria Alonso (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) from third. Lauren Pitney (Ansonia, CT / St. Joseph's) then reached on a fielding error to send Rising home, cutting the Jaspers' deficit to 8-3. But Manhattan would earn just one more hit in the game, unable to come-from-behind against the Big Red.
- Pitney earned a double for Manhattan in the match-up, her second of the season.
- McDermott took the pitching loss, her first of the season.
Manhattan will play Cornell Sunday at 11:30 a.m. It will be the Jaspers' final game in Madeira Beach.
