Jaspers Return Home For Quinnipiac Showdown

Riverdale, NY - Manhattan women's basketball will play host to MAAC number one Quinnipiac on Friday, February 15 at 7:00 p.m. in Draddy Gymnasium. 

Game Notes:

Last Outing
Monmouth scored 25 fourth-quarter points to overtake Manhattan (7-16; 5-7 MAAC) in a 71-63 victory for the Hawks at the OceanFirst Bank Center on February 12. Manhattan forced 21 turnovers from the Hawks, compared to 15 committed by the Jaspers. But Manhattan allowed the Hawks a 22-14 advantage in the paint, as well as 11 threes for the game. Monmouth, the league's lowest-percentage free throw shooting team at 57.8 percent, went 14-15 from the foul line in the game. 

Top Performances
Freshman D'yona Davis (Bronx, NY / Truman) tied her career-scoring high with 20 points, including 13 first-half points. She added six rebounds, tying another personal best, and three steals in 25 minutes of play. Lynette Taitt (Irvington, NJ / Bishop Loughlin) added 14 points for the Jaspers, her sixth consecutive double-figure scoring game. She shot 50 percent from the floor and picked up five boards and four assists. Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) and Juile Hoier (Aabyhoej, Denmark / Marselisborg Gymnasium) combined for 15 of Manhattan's 33 rebounds. Warley pulled down eight, including six on the offensive end, while Hoier added seven.

MAAC Stats
Manhattan has held conference opponents to 54.2 points per game so far, good for second in the league. The Jaspers are averaging a league-high 5.7 blocks per game in the MAAC, while earning 9.2 steals per contest, which ties Rider for second in the conference. Manhattan is the MAAC's third-best rebounding team, with nearly 39 boards a game.

Warley's World
One of the MAAC's best defenders, Warley leads the league in rebounding (9.8), blocks (2.9), and steals (2.7) per game against conference opponents. She is also 14th in the league in field goal percentage, shooting nearly 42 percent against MAAC foes. Warley averages more than 34 minutes per game in MAAC play.

Davis Gets it Done
Davis, a three-time MAAC Rookie of the Week selection, leads the Jaspers with 10 points per game in MAAC play, ranking 21st in the league. She is shooting 43.7 percent in league games (11th in conference), while adding 3.3 boards per game.

Taitt the Great
Taitt has scored in double-figures in six-straight games, including a career-high 20 points in the Jaspers' win over Marist on January 27. She is averaging 9.4 points per game against the league, coming in at 27th in the conference's top 30 scorers. In MAAC play, Taitt has become a dominate defensive presence, with 2.1 steals per game (eighth in the MAAC). 

Watkins From Beyond the Arc
Freshman Sydney Watkins (Wanaque, NJ / Saddle River Day) has hit a team-high 26 threes in conference games, ranking sixth in the MAAC. She's shooting 32 percent from deep against MAAC opponents.

Meet the Bobcats
Quinnipiac (17-6; 12-0 MAAC) continues its undefeated season after beating Canisius 68-51 on February 9. The Bobcats are scoring more than 72 points per game in the league, a MAAC-high, while holding opponents to a conference-best 45.8 points per contest. The team averages a league-best 13.8 steals per game. 

Aryn McClure and Paula Strautmane both average 10.7 points per MAAC game for Quinnipiac, while three other Bobcats land on the MAAC's top 30 scoring list. 

Previous Meeting
The Jaspers and Bobcats last met on December 31, 2017, when, after a hard-fought first half that left the teams tied 36-36 at halftime, the Bobcats were able to outscore the Jaspers 44-28 in the final two quarters, leading Quinnipiac to the 80-64 victory. Manhattan tied the Bobcats in rebounding for the game (30-30), and outscored Quinnipiac 13-11 on second-chance points overall. The team was also able to contain McClure, holding her to just four points. But her teammate Jen Fay exploded for 32 points (a career-high) and 10 rebounds. 

Series History
Quinnipiac holds a 10-1 advantage in the all-time series between the two teams. The Jaspers' one victory against the Bobcats came on December 6, 2015, when Manhattan beat Quinnipiac 52-42 on the road to open the 2015-16 MAAC season 2-0. Former Manhattan guard Amani Tatum paced the Jaspers with 18 points, eight of which came in the fourth quarter. She added then career-highs of seven rebounds and five steals.
