The win is Manhattan's second straight after beating Marist on January 27 in Poughkeepsie. The Jaspers improve to 5-14 on the year and 3-5 in the MAAC, while the Stags drop to 5-15 and 2-7 in the league.
Highlights:
- Freshman D'yona Davis (Bronx, NY / Truman) earned her third double-digit scoring night in as many games, leading all players with 13 points. In 29 minutes, the reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week added two assists and two steals.
- Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan), the MAAC's leading rebounder and shot blocker, continued her domination down low, recording a game-high 13 boards, just one off her career high and her third-straight double-digit rebounding game. She added two blocks and nine points, nearly recording her third double-double of the year. Warley is averaging 10.1 rebounds per game against MAAC opponents so far this season.
- Coming off a career-day against Marist, Lynette Taitt (Irvington, NJ / Bishop Loughlin) contributed 10 points for the Jaspers against Fairfield, as well as six assists, tying her career high set this season against Sacred Heart on December 16.
- Julie Hoier (Aabyhoej, Denmark / Marselisborg Gymnasium) pulled down eight rebounds for Manhattan, the second-best rebound total of the night. Hoier has averaged nine boards in the past three games for the Jaspers, including 5.7 defensive boards. Manhattan outrebounded Fairfield 27-22 on the defensive glass on Friday, limiting the Stags' second-chance points.
- In a game where the biggest lead was eight points (held by Manhattan in the second quarter), the Jaspers fended off a strong Fairfield squad all game.
- After opening with a 10-6 advantage in the first, Manhattan saw its lead decreased to one 10 minutes later, as the Stags shot 45.5 percent in the second. Freshman Sydney Watkins (Wanaque, NJ / Saddle River Day) drilled a three as time ran down before the half to keep Manhattan up 21-20 at the break.
- The Jaspers shot 60 percent from the floor in the third quarter, going on an 8-2 run to open play in the second half. Taitt scored four in the quarter, while Warley and Watkins combined for six. Warley and Hoier pulled down five rebounds in the period, all defensive. Manhattan stretched its lead to as many as seven in the second, before finishing the quarter up 35-32.
- A Davis jumper within the first minute of the fourth put Manhattan up by five, but both teams were then held scoreless for nearly four minutes. Sini Makela (Helsinki, Finland / Mäkelänrinne Sports High) broke the draught with a huge three that put Manhattan up eight halfway through the final quarter.
- Fairfield staged a comeback over the next three minutes, cutting the lead to one with two to go. But the Jaspers dug in. A block by Davis avoided a Fairfield fastbreak basket that would have given the Stags the lead. Hoier then sank a free throw with 15 seconds to go, followed by two more foul shots from Taitt at seven seconds left to cement the W.
- Katie Armstrong scored a team-high 12 for Fairfield, While Khadidiatou Diouf earned eight rebounds. Casey Foley added five assists and a game-high five steals for the Stags.
