Jaspers Finish Non-Conference Schedule At Nebraska

Lincoln, NE - Manhattan women's basketball concluded it's 2019-20 non-conference schedule with a 71-51 loss at Nebraska. Manhattan is now 3-7 on the season (0-1 MAAC), while Nebraska improves to 10-1 on the year. 

Highlights:
  • Freshman guard Emily LaPointe (Staten Island, NY / Staten Island Academy) earned a team-high 17 points against the Cornhuskers, just one off her career high of 18. She went 5-11 from the floor and 4-8 from three, while adding a game-high four steals on the defensive end.  
  • Senior guard Gabby Cajou (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) contributed 14 points to the Jasper offense, including seven in a fourth-quarter rally. Cajou contributed four assists in the game, as well. 
  • Senior forward Julie Høier (Aabyhoej, Denmark / Marselisborg Gymnasium) pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, her best performance on the boards this season. Her eight defensive rebounds were also a game-high, and she added three steals on the day.
  • The Jaspers shot nearly 43 percent from the floor in the first quarter, while also going 5-9 from beyond the arc, to finish the period down two (21-19). While Nebraska earned a 10-point scoring advantage (16-6) in the second, Manhattan battled back in the third, scoring 12 points to Nebraska's 13 in that stanza. 
  • As a team, Manhattan finished with 10 steals, while also forcing 14 turnovers from the Huskers. Nebraska controlled the defensive glass, however, pulling down 34 defensive rebounds compared to Manhattan's 21. The Cornhuskers finished with a 47-32 rebounding advantage.  
  • Nebraska's Leigha Brown finishes with a game-high 25 points. Kate Cain added 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Manhattan will start MAAC play in earnest on January 2, hosting Canisius in Draddy at 7:00 pm.
