Buffalo, NY – Adrien Awana (Bordeaux, France / University of Bordeaux) curled home his first goal of the season in the 50th minute, pushing Manhattan past host Canisius 2-1 at the Demske Sports Complex.
Awana's fifth career goal came off a set piece, as the senior confidently took and scored on a free kick from just outside the box to give Manhattan a 2-1 lead, that the Jaspers would hold for the remaining 40 minutes.
Junior Brandon Joseph-Buadi (Brighton, England / Woodard) scored his second goal this week, as he opened the scoring for Manhattan in the 31st minute, knifing through the box and depositing the ball into the back of the net. His goal tied the score at one.
Julius Schoner scored the only goal for Canisius, as his 20th minute score gave the Golden Griffins a brief one-goal advantage.
Senior goalkeeper Marcellin Gohier (Nantes, France / CENS) made two saves to earn the win for the Jaspers.
Manhattan held a 15-9 advantage on shots, including seven shots on net compared to just three for the Golden Griffins. The Jaspers also earned a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior Berti Fourrier (Marseille, France / IFC Marseille) led the way with four shots, putting three on net. Awana recorded two shots and put them both on net, while senior Felipe Clavijo (Santiago, Chile / Palm Beach Atlantic) and senior Angee Komano (Toulouse, France / Université Montpellier) each delivered two shots.
Manhattan improves to 5-8-0 and 4-3-0 during MAAC play, while Canisius falls to 2-11-0 and 1-6-0 in the league.
