Riverdale, NY
 –  With just over 40 seconds remaining in the second overtime, sophomore Thomas Hitchins (Raleigh, NC / Wakefield) corralled a deflection from junior Berti Fourrier (Marseille, France / IFC Marseille), and smashed home the game winning shot from just outside the box to lift Manhattan to a 1-0 MAAC-opening win over Monmouth.

The teams played the first 109 minutes without a score, with both teams threatening at different points on the evening.

Senior Marcellin Gohier (Nantes, France / CENS) recorded his 14th career shutout in the victory, while improving on his own school record. Gohier made six stops on the night, including five in the second half, to keep the game deadlocked at zero. Monmouth held a slight advantage in shots (12-9) and corners (10-6), but the Jaspers outshot the Hawks 4-2 in overtime. Fourrier and junior Moritz Riegel (Hannover, Germany / Leibniz Universität Hannover) each had two shots in the contest.

Manhattan improves to 2-5 and 1-0 in the MAAC, while the Hawks fall to 0-7-1 and 0-1 in the league.

Inside the Numbers Quotable

"Tremendous win to start the MAAC campaign and a total squad effort," head coach Jorden Scott said. "We still have a long way to go and now we must turn our focus to Quinnipiac and another tough test."
