Bronx, NY – Fordham defeated Manhattan 144-92 on the men's side and 173-62 on the women's side in the annual 'Battle of the Bronx.'
Sophomore Branden Deiss (Benoni, South Africa / Crawford College Lonehill) finished in first place in 1,000-yard freestyle, with a time of 9:50.19, an improvement of over two seconds from his last meet at the NJIT, and second in the 500-yard freestyle, just three-tenths off of first place.
Junior Artur Polyak (Haifa, Israel / Pittsburgh) earned a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a winning time of 52.59, while also taking third in the 200-yard Individual Medley (2:01.64).
Senior Timothy Valentine (Massapequa, NY / Chaminade) rounded out the individual winneres for the men the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.65.
Manhattan captured a win in the 400-yard freestyle, as the team of Polyak, Deiss, sophomore Michael Popescu (Matthews, NC / Marvin Ridge) and junior Charles Ledda (New Fairfield, CT / New Fairfield) recorded a time of 3:22.48.
On the women's side, freshman Ciara Dalton (Pleasantville, NY / Byram Hills) earned her first collegiate win in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.17 to go along with a third-place finish in the 200 yard Individual Medley (2:14.38) .
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the quartet of freshman Mackenzie Tuttle (Highland Mills, NY / Monroe-Woodbury), sophomore Sarah Hamilton (Northland, NZ / St. Cuthbert's College), classmate Katelyn Hall (Nanuet, NY / Albertus Magnus) and senior Kali Nembach (Lynbrook, NY / Lynbrook) notched the winning time of 3:52.06.
Manhattan returns to action with a tri-meet in Jersey City against Kean and Saint Peter's on Saturday, November 9.
